'Night, Mother

by Marsha Norman

directed by Jo Guthrie

'Night, Mother is about control, boundaries, and relationships. It is the story of Jessie, determined to kill herself, and her mother, determined to talk her out of it. It's time for Mama's weekly manicure, but tonight Jessie announces that she's going to kill herself as soon as they're through. Jessie's health has been better lately, but it's not enough to overcome her failures in life and if this is how she wants to use her fragile moment of control, how can Mama stop her? You'd better believe she's going to try!

About The Director: Jo Guthrie has been involved with Theatre@First from the start and has held many roles from Producer to Publicist to Technical Director, but this is her first foray into directing since college where she directed full scale productions of Arsenic and Old Lace and Blithe Spirit. She's looking forward to investing in the creativity of her actors and is hoping you'll walk away thinking.

Bare Bones: Staged Readings at Theatre@First is an exciting new program allowing casts and audiences to explore a wider variety of plays in the spare, intense setting of a directed reading
